February - 2nd installment.

Came across this book while on a trip to St Kinda (Acland Rd -book store) Melbourne. Great area, fantastic walks along the foreshore.

"You have infinite power" - Ultimate success through energy, passion, purpose and the principles of Taekwondo.

I guess there were two things that made me pick it up. Firstly about a Martial Art and secondly about an infinite power. I have been reading various books on this lately.

  • Think and Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill
  • The 12 Core Action Values by Joe Tye
  • Change your thoughts-Change your life by Dr Wayne Dyer
  • The essential collection by Dr Wayne Dyer
  • You can Farm by Joel Salatin
All these are road signs, on my journey to living a soul satisfying life. Signs that have been constantly there but not as prominently seen, until now. When I as young lad I grew African violets. Amazed how they could grow from a mere cutting. My father grew the odd garden full of vegetables and I loved animals almost to the point of becoming a Vet. But then teenage years come along with cars, motorbikes and Bedford vans. Thousands of dollars miss-spent.

Now 35yrs down the road, we have a 100acre block, I have a dozen alpacas, Been to TAFE and other learning facilities and covered everything from Biodynamics, Alpaca production 101, to Organic Farming Cert IV and Permaculture Design. Up until Christmas this year I have been searching for something, not sure what. That's the hard thing, looking for something that will solve something that you don't know what it is you have to resolve.
Until I came across this book in St Kilda, it was slightly different. I had been looking for an answer but this is a workbook. It makes you think, write things down, ponder over your thoughts and actions. Through a 14 step Transformation it helps to change your thinking, replace doubt with positivity, Become aware of your inner thoughts, and tells you to NEVER GIVE UP on your dreams. These are all things I have learnt through martial arts training in both TKD and Haidong Gumdo. I am now working towards 3rd Dan.

Here are the steps in the book
  1. Thought                                                    8. Realization
  2. Replace emotional Scars                       9. Meditation
  3. Awareness                                               10. Attitude
  4. Never give up                                          11. Track your goals
  5. Self Image                                                12. Imagination
  6. Focus                                                         13. Organised Planning
  7. Opportunities                                         14. New You.
As you can see, an AHA!! EUREKA !!! moment. Run down the street in a kilt. (Hahaha!!) Especially after attending Joel Salatin's "You can farm" seminar yesterday in Sydney. Guess what ? He re-iterated all those points for building and running a $uccessful farming enterprise.

SO !
Onward we grow...
This is the mighty pumpkin patch that has taken over the vegetable garden on Foxdale. next year I'll place it over the other side all by itself. So far I have counted a dozen huge Queensland Blues.

This is the mark out for the future house. Nice horse-shoe shape with rammed earth walls and a Zen garden in the centre.
Foxdale Signage has gone on the Ute.

Coming up next.... Another Pro-graze installment this week and more fencing and barn building too.

Cheers.

February Update

More cria alpaca on the ground over the last fortnight. This little one was born around mid-day in a dusty area and he kept wanting to get up and find shade. So I scooped him up in a horse feed bucket and took him to a nice grassy area. Mum was a bit freaked out, but she was OK with the new digs. Maybe she'll think about where to give birth next time.

That makes a clean dozen now, and as you see, the grass is green and growing. Over January we had a good 89mls early on with some 19 mls in the gauge as a follow-up in the last week. So all good there. Just have to get down to work on cleaning up the paddocks a bit more.

Fencing is coming along with another 3 strainer posts in, with more to go in soon.
And I have started replacing the pine trees that have died off in the wind-break down on the western paddock.
